Rather than just provide random INPUT BOX COPY from manufacturer’s catalogs, we looked at various ways to engage visitors. There’s a “staple of the week” where we actually look at a staple, how it’s made, what it’s made of, how many pages it can hold and examine the shape. We have user “staple art” uploads, where users make pictures out of staples and send them in, with a monthly award in the form of a coupon. We also have a “stapler poetry” contest where users take existing poems and “improve” them by making them about staples. (It’s a lot funnier than it sounds.) As a result of our new strategy, the number of page views has gone up 150% and the number of return visits/month has risen 200% since the site redesign.
